Meet the Curator

Kei Hoshi|Curator of 0.25h

Originally from Japan and based in Auckland, New Zealand, I have spent over 30 years exploring the relationship between people and experiences through design practice, research and education. Until 2025, I taught design at Auckland University of Technology (AUT).

Through 0.25h, I hope to share what I call a “Metaphorical Experience”—an experience in which music, storytelling and coffee resonate with our own memories and emotions.

We might recognise something of ourselves in a character, or find that a song brings back a feeling we had almost forgotten. As the aroma and flavour of coffee become part of that moment, the world of the story can begin to feel connected to our own.

A story of waiting for dawn might echo a hope we are quietly holding onto. A story of two people driving by the sea might remind us of small misunderstandings with someone close, or the sweetness of time spent together.

What emerges is different for each of us. Even the same story can speak to us differently depending on how we feel that day. For me, the richness of this experience lies in discovering unexpected connections within ourselves—and finding that everyday life looks a little different afterwards.

0.25h offers fifteen minutes for those connections to unfold. As its curator, I bring music, stories and coffee into conversation, leaving room for each person to find their own meaning.
